3 Tips to improve your website The old adage is true... presentation is everything. This is especially true when it comes to your website. It doesn't matter if you're selling a product or a service. In the end all that matters is how well you execute your presentation. Unfortunately, the power of presentation is an often overlooked element when it comes to e-commerce websites.
Think for a moment about that high-end boutique in your town. How do they present their products? Are they displayed the same way as cleaning supplies in your local grocery store? Of course not! That high-end boutique knows that they must present their products in a certain way if they want to receive the high-end prices they're charging. What are some things that you can do to quickly improve your presentation?
A good website design - You only have a fraction of a second to entice a visitor to click around your website more. The overall visual look that your website has can make or break you. It's the very first thing that your visitor sees. What type of first impression do you want to make? At first glance is your website clean and friendly? Or is it overpowering and cluttered?
Simple Navigation - Your website navigation can never be too simple... never. Your visitors want to find the information they came for and they want to find it fast. They don't want to have to search for it. Sit down and really think about your navigation. Is there any way to simplify it? Can you get your visitors to your products in LESS clicks? Take it one step further and have a friend (who will give you honest feedback) visit your website and navigate around. Ask them about their experience. Was it easy to find what they were looking for? Did anything confuse them? Sometimes they'll pick out things that you didn't see or think of.
Good Quality Photos - I cannot stress how important your product photos are. If you decide to do only one thing to improve your website .... improve your photos. When you sell online, visitors cannot physically pick up your product to examine it. Your photos have to sell your product. Clean, crisp, clear and bright photos tell your visitor that your product is so good that you're willing to spend the time to make sure it shows. A tip I always recommend to my clients is to make sure all their website thumbnail photos are the same size. This will help to keep your website clean and uncluttered.
Always be mindful about the power of presentation. And always look for ways to improve your web site's presentation. The return you receive for your time will be well worth it!
